  • Fascinating podcast about farming

This is a great podcast. I have learned a lot about all the different initiatives going on in organic and regenerative agriculture. The hosts interview farmers who are doing small local truly organic, truly ethical farming. They also interview other people involved in rural revival through healthy farming.

This is the way forward for a real environmental movement that cares about people and communities and health. ( instead of top down, bureaucratic, corporate greenwashing). Listen and be i... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Farm Bill Explained with Judith McGeary
Q: What specific measures were you fighting for, especially in meat processing and labeling?
Measures include the Prime Act to allow custom-exempt slaughter and sale of meat, the Local Foods Act to enable on-farm processing, and Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling to inform consumers about where meat comes from; some passed in the House but not all in the Senate.
The Farm Bill Explained with Judith McGeary
Q: What are the key points that are at tension in this Farm Bill and who are the main factions opposing each other?
There is a clash between protecting nutrition programs and protecting farm subsidies, with growing contention between big agribusiness interests and public/consumer interests, plus friction over local control versus federal regulation and corporate overreach.
The Farm Bill Explained with Judith McGeary
Q: To get us started, for those who haven't spent 500 hours reading legislative text, what exactly is the Farm Bill and why is it so important?
The Farm Bill is a multi-year, comprehensive piece of legislation that covers nearly all aspects of food and agriculture, including nutrition programs, forestry, conservation, and crop insurance; it serves as the backbone setting the framework for how our food system operates.
The Future of Regenerative Agriculture with Gabe Brown
Q: How would you define regenerative agriculture for yourself?
Gabe defines regenerative agriculture as farming and ranching in synchrony with nature to repair and restore ecosystem function, beginning with soil life and expanding to all life above ground.
Blending Forest and Field with Steve Gabriel
Q: How do you approach getting trees established on farms in a way that respects farmers' timelines and practices?
By matching tree selections to site microclimates and existing workflows, starting with longer-lived, field-ready stock, and progressively integrating trees into the farm's rhythm rather than imposing a separate, external task.
