Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

357: How Better Fertilizer Placement Can Boost Yield and Profit
Q: Is it better to use liquid in-furrow or dry two-by-two placement for starter nutrients?
Both methods are used, but the speaker favors placement in-furrow and cautions against co-mingling certain products; recommendations emphasize strips and context-specific choices rather than blanket rules.
357: How Better Fertilizer Placement Can Boost Yield and Profit
Q: Can these PK&S principles apply to other crops beyond corn, such as soybeans or wheat?
Yes, the speaker notes that the system works across corn, soybeans, wheat, canola, and even milo, indicating broad applicability of the placement and starter concepts.
357: How Better Fertilizer Placement Can Boost Yield and Profit
Q: What is the pH of DAP and how does that affect its use?
DAP typically has a high pH around 8, meaning it is applied in situations where soils are already acidic; the quiz implies consideration of placement and reaction timing to optimize availability, and suggests being cautious about mixing with other formulations.
358: The Simple, Affordable Way to Start Running Liquid
Q: What's the first practical upgrade you'd recommend after the entry-level system?
Most people should avoid the big dealer Cadillac upgrade and instead look at adding basic flow control, a simple monitor readout for the pump, and perhaps row shutoffs or a flow meter, because these additions don't dramatically increase cost but add meaningful control and reliability.
356: From Guesswork to 17 More Bushels of Beans
Q: Tell us a little bit about your story, where you farm, what you grow, and how you wound up working with A Better Way To Farm?
The operation is in southern Minnesota with a cow-calf herd, corn, soybeans, and canning crops like peas and lima beans. They pursued A Better Way To Farm after feeling uncertainty about their past practices and wanting a concrete plan, leading to a more organized, data-driven approach.
