  • Still the best breakfast in Melbourne

Interesting guests, topics, rumour file, sports and humour from Ross and Russel. I gave the new 774 breakfast show a go (Bob Murphy and Charnelle Vella) but came quickly back to 3AW.

Bit too sport focused. Endless discussion and constant random references to AFL footy players and teams that are totally meaningless to most who don’t follow sport.

Ross has a habit of cutting off interesting guests to offer up his own mediocre anecdote that we’ve all heard a thousand times before. Maybe don’t invite them on if you are not going to listen to them.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ā€˜Criminal activity chases the weak’: Victoria's shocking car theft statistic
Q: Is this data-led, or are insurers taking advantage of the narrative around the vibe of high car theft numbers?
Andrew Hall emphasizes that the data shows a real, systemic issue in Melbourne, with specific reference to the frequency of thefts and the costs involved, while noting that the numbers could be underestimated due to uninsured losses not being claim-based.
ā€˜Predicting a 500 per cent rise’: The age group overwhelming emergency departments across Australia
Q: Doctor, grateful for your time. Why is this happening?
The main drivers are overcrowded departments, deteriorating working conditions, and a combination of population growth and an aging population that labs behind the required infrastructure, leading to rising stress on staff and an intent among some physicians to leave the field.
'There is nothing bigger than this': Governor-general ahead of her Big Freeze slide
Q: What can you tell us about the theme for your Big Freeze costume?
I'm keeping the exact theme under wraps to preserve the element of surprise, but I did confirm that I'll be wearing a wetsuit under the costume.
'We need whales!': Thriving oceans to thank for killer whale sightings
Q: Doctor, always grateful for your time. Are these the whales that make their way from Western Australia to Harvey Bay?
The guest explains that the whales seen in southern Australian waters may be resident or locally frequent, and that killer whales in Bremer Bay and nearby deep-water zones are part of a population that uses Australian waters seasonally, with some populations more dispersed than previously thought.
We speak to Sir Martin Sorrell
Q: So Martin, to that point about some of the organizational benefits to AI adoption there, have you got any sort of examples of exactly how a workflow might be changing?
Sure. In auto manufacturing and other sectors we're seeing five areas transform: visualization and copywriting which will require fewer but higher-paid specialists; personalisation at scale using first-party data; media planning and buying potentially moving in-house for some clients; efficiency gains through cloud-based AI like our joint venture with AWS, Adobe and NVIDIA; and democratising knowledge so teams coordinate more effectively.
