連音とは、子音で終わる音節のあとに、母音で始まる音節が来たときに、その音が繋がる現象を言います。
英語で例を挙げると、「an apple」の音が繋がって「アナッポ〜」のように発音されることです。

軽声とは本来持っている声調が消え、軽く短く発音される音節のことです。
注意点としては、軽声の直前の音節は転調（声調変化）が起こらないことです。
軽声はその音節の前に"--(ハイフン二つ）"をつづります。

台湾語は単語、フレーズの最後の一音節を除き、すべての音節が転調します。
転調とは、本来その字（語）が持っている声調とは違う声調に変化することです。
とてもややこしく感じますが、台湾語はとても規則的な転調規則をもっています。
転調規則は以下の通りです。
今回は転調がわかりやすいように、→で転調後の発音を記していますが、辞書などでは転調前の声調のまま記載するのが普通です。

鼻音化母音、または鼻母音とは口からも鼻からも呼気が抜ける母音のことです。
日本語では通常の会話スピードで「店員（てんいん）」と言ったときに、「てん」の「ん」の音が鼻母音として発音されています。
この発音は台湾語ではとてもよく使われるもので、台湾語の特徴的な音色のひとつでもあります。

私も台湾に留学していた経験があり、南部の方だったのでお店のおじちゃんおばちゃんはみんな台語を使うため、コミュニケーションに苦労することがありました。簡単な挨拶や相槌、歌なんかは覚えられるんですが、会話となると若い人の中にも台語が得意ではない人もおり、なかなか学習が難しいのが現状です。
このようなPodcastで手軽に学習できるのは非常に魅力だと思います。特に台語の場合は中国語に比べて音調が多く発音が難しいので、シャドーイングを用いた学習は非常に効果的だと思います。
