1950年、会津の山村で妊婦の遺体から胎児を取り出して埋葬するという「胎児分離埋葬事件」が起きた。
警察が動いたこの奇怪な事件の背景には、「祟り」を恐れる村の信仰と、妊婦の死を“穢れと罪”と見なす民俗的世界観があった。
