我們上週談到梅瑟(摩西)藉著天主的能力，在法老王的面前顯了十個懲罰埃及人的奇蹟，最後第十個就是把所有埃及的長子包含畜生都殺死了!以色列人的長子得以保全，就是天主吩咐在前一天晚上百姓要殺一隻羔羊將血塗在門楣上，所以天使在夜晚巡視時只要看到門楣上有紅紅鮮血的就越過去，所以以色列人就把這個很重要的事蹟定為「逾越節」，紀念天主特別保護以色列人。
