  • A void no more

    Keep doing this.

The french version of Malcolm aired for many years on a public channel called Téléquebec, which I watched alot.

I assume countless reruns allowed you (young) guys to also enjoy the show, well after the show’s last season.

The Podcast sounds great, it has proper sound levels.

I like how you describe the scenes, it helps the listeners’ imaginations.

I like how natural/filter less you guys seem.

I like how you put a different hat on when you have people from the show on th... more

  • Awaiting my royalty check…

As the long-suffering father of Willa and Ryan, I’m glad to finally have a podcast where my parenting mistakes (and anatomy) are catalogued for posterity. If you ever wondered what happened behind the scenes in a house where “Malcolm in the Middle” felt like a documentary, look no further.

Keep up the good work, kids.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

INTERVIEW: Steve Welch (Editor)
Q: How did the transition to digital editing impact the editing process and comedy on Malcolm and later projects?
Welch describes coming in at the dawn of digital editing, the greater flexibility it provided for experimentation, and how it enabled longer takes, more fluid performances, and the possibility of dueling overs, which broadened what could be captured in a single scene.
INTERVIEW: Steve Welch (Editor)
Q: What was the approach to the show's lack of a laugh track, and how did it affect editing decisions?
The lack of a laugh track allowed for a more natural flow and helped the editing focus on rhythm and character-driven humor, with the editor choosing moments that felt truthful and not overly cue-driven, supporting a more cinematic sensibility.
INTERVIEW: Steve Welch (Editor)
Q: How did the recording and editing rhythm of Malcolm in the Middle influence its final tone and pacing?
Welch emphasizes Linwood's clear vision and the collaboration with directors; the rhythm came from Linwood's ear, with careful cuts to preserve timing, not overlaps, and a disciplined approach to structure that prioritized the show's unique feel over ad-libbed moments.
