In a first for the pod, the guys pit two albums of the era up against each other, in a 10-round, knock-down-drag-out, winner-take-all Battle Royale fight to the finish! Who will be the last band standing? Well, that all depends on who you ask…and how... more

Tom and John Nixon, both excellent musicians, songwriters and producers, brings a Yacht Rock slant to their loving dissection of music and especially the Music from the Mid 70’s to Mid 80’s - the so called “Yacht Rock Era”, but also takes a slightly Geeky turn into analysing the Musicianship, Production and mixing techniques of the Era, But “detours” into other Genres and Artists happen frequently and it is always accompanied by a funny and friendly banter with a “Pirate-y” vibe that only 2 bro... more
Love the balance of technical and non technical content. Every time I listen I start feeling like I’m one step closer to learning the secret to identifying a songs yachty attributes only to have the seeds of doubt once more planted in my pea brain until the next episode! But I’m a sucker for punishment. So keep hitting me with those lush Lukather riffs and Porcaro shuffles. I’m here for it!

Two veteran hosts explore the history, craft, and culture around yacht rock, West Coast AOR, and related 70s/80s production aesthetics. Episodes thread through technical deep-dives (drum machines, synthesizers, string arrangements), genre crossovers, and playful debates about albums, covers, and era-defining moments. The show blends scholarly gear talk with warm banter, trivia, and nostalgic storytelling, often circling back to studio practices, notable artists, and how production choices shaped a distinctive musical vibe. A standout angle is the explicit focus on the gear and methods behind the sound, paired with accessible storytelling that appeals to both nerds and casual listeners who crave context and culture around this beloved era.
