在這個讓人不安的時代，再次翻閱聖嚴法師的《是非要溫柔》，內心感觸頗深。最近社會紛亂、天災人禍頻傳，特別是在分享前一天發生的無差別攻擊事件，讓人心中久久難以平靜。也正是在這樣的時刻，二十多年前讀過的這本書，重新浮現在心中，提醒我：面對是非與衝突，我們是否還能保有溫柔的心？
《是非要溫柔》出版於1998年，是聖嚴法師接受《天下雜誌》副總編輯莊素玉的採訪筆錄，內容涵蓋職場相處、人我關係與企業家的人生格局。其中，特別觸動我的是〈安己安人與安樂世界〉這一章節。

公案的角色結構往往極其簡單，多半是一位師父與一位弟子的對話；它不按邏輯出牌，也不需要過度說明。就像「火警取暖」的比喻，當師父喊失火時，領悟的人反而添柴取暖——這不是反常，而是超越常理的直指人心。更重要的是，公案常透過不斷的追問與當頭棒喝，引導修行者在困惑中自我突破，這正是話頭禪的精神。

本書記錄 1991 年，聖嚴法師帶領法鼓山建設團隊，前往中國大陸考察佛教古建築藝術的歷程，行程橫跨北京、山西、甘肅等地，作為日後建設法鼓山的重要參考。
「火宅」象徵凡夫在煩惱中製造苦樂無常的世界；「清涼」，則是聖者以智慧開展、利益眾生的清涼境界。
說書人何釐琦也回憶自身的山西朝聖之旅——因友人推薦前往山西旅行，臨行前兩週偶然得知聖嚴法師曾到訪五台山，便攜帶收錄於《火宅清涼》的〈山西之旅行腳記〉同行，依循法師足跡，走訪五台山、雁門關、雲岡石窟等千年古剎。
