The interviewer is very good, and I appreciate the content, but trying to paint the utilities as some kind of saviors is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone who’s involved with utilities for more than a few weeks understands the rampant corruption. Case in point: one Arizona regulator is a former lobbyist for the gas industry, and Arizona is 56% fossil gas, 10% coal and a sad 10% Solar. No worries, though, they will be losing a lot of ... more

PJM’s high stakes reform
Q: What superpower do you bring to the energy transition?
Her superpower is the ability to translate complex nitty-gritty energy topics into clear, actionable insights that help stakeholders make better decisions.
PJM’s high stakes reform
Q: What do you see as the stakes for PJM in the coming year or two in terms of load growth and rate concerns?
PJM faces high stakes as capacity market reforms have continued since 2020; rash short-term moves could erode investment and raise long-term prices, so balancing reliability, affordability, and investment signals is critical.
PJM’s high stakes reform
Q: Walk me through the arguments for and against data center flexibility as they relate to PJM.
Data centers could turn down demand during stress, reducing generation needs and potentially cutting costs, but proof of reliable capability is limited and PJM remains cautious about implementing new demand-response mechanisms.
How millions of small shifts make gigawatts of energy capacity
Q: Can you dig into how you set up those experiments a bit more?
We used randomized control trials to measure the effectiveness of energy shift capacity versus traditional demand response systems.
How millions of small shifts make gigawatts of energy capacity
Q: Do you see any messaging tensions between maintaining comfort in the home and addressing the energy affordability crisis?
Customer empowerment is key; preferences vary among users for maximizing savings.
