  • Halfway through

Hey guys, I only discovered Marvel Champions last December and have been lucky enough to now own the full collection. I started listening at your podcast about two months ago and started with episode 1 and I am now at E50. Really enjoying it so far, so hopefully the quality will remain. I learn a lot from you guys. As I am now halfway through, I hope to catch up in a month or two. Just got Jessica Jones and Luke Cage and hope to test them out later today. Keep up the good work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E100: Show of Empathy, with Tony Fanchi
Q: What balance considerations went into Show of Empathy's costs and effects?
The card costs two justice actions and removes significant threat, converting a minion into an ally with limited damage, which balances the potential power by tying it to resource spend and a limited number of activations.
E100: Show of Empathy, with Tony Fanchi
Q: How did the Thor-Loki pairing influence the art brief for Show of Empathy?
The Thor-Loki pairing was chosen to visually dramatize the idea of enemies becoming allies, reinforcing the card's empathy theme and providing a instantly recognizable narrative hook for players.
E100: Show of Empathy, with Tony Fanchi
Q: Tell us about Show of Empathy and what makes it stand out in a deck.
Show of Empathy is a zero-cost, non-elite minion conversion card that can turn a threat-laden minion into an ally, creating strong tempo and thematic storytelling potential, especially when paired with Redemption to control the minion's lifecycle.
E93: Nick Fury (Hero), feat. VJakson!
Q: What makes Fury feel like a 'best-in-theme-to-mechanics' marriage, in your view?
The design nails the spy fantasy through the suit form upgrade, form flipping, and threat management that rewards clever timing and information-gathering, all while delivering punchy attacks. The synergy between theme and mechanics is cohesive across the hero card and supporting cards, producing an immersive experience that also plays well in a variety of deck builds.
E93: Nick Fury (Hero), feat. VJakson!
Q: Why does Nick Fury have three traits on both sides, and how does that affect gameplay decisions?
Having three traits on both sides emphasizes Fury's multifaceted identity as a shield agent, spy, and soldier, which broadens card synergy and enables more consistent access to key trait-based effects. It also makes him a flexible but potentially more complex deck-building experience, since many cards and upgrades interact with those traits.
