  • A découvrir

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#116 - The story of Marie-Antoinette's Champagne: with Maud Rabin, Managing Director of Rare Champagne
Q: Why does Rare Champagne focus on vintages rather than year-round production?
The Marquis d'Olan's vision and Regis Camus' style emphasize producing the most beautiful wine possible, which leads to a vintage-driven approach where wines are only released when they meet a high standard, ensuring rarity and exceptional quality.
#116 - The story of Marie-Antoinette's Champagne: with Maud Rabin, Managing Director of Rare Champagne
Q: Where do the vines come from and is Rare Champagne estate-grown or sourced from partners?
Rare Champagne is Chardonnay-driven and sources from long-standing partner growers, blending grapes from multiple villages to maintain the signature tropical notes while ensuring consistency and quality; decisions on vintage and blend are made by the cellar master and Emilia Boutilla later in the process.
#115 - Inside California Wine: with Christopher Beros, Asia Director of the California Wine Institute
Q: What makes the California approach to labeling and AVAs different?
He notes California focuses on variety, vintage, and origin with flexibility in labeling; there are no strict regional blending rules like in Europe, allowing producers to showcase flexibility while still maintaining honesty about origin and grape variety.
#115 - Inside California Wine: with Christopher Beros, Asia Director of the California Wine Institute
Q: How did you start in the wine industry?
Christopher Beros explains he began in finance covering food and beverage, moved to China for a deal, started importing California wine to China, and later joined the California Wine Institute to represent them in Asia, finding it a natural fit given his interest in wine and business.
#112 - Guillaume Lété: Cellar Master at Champagne Barons de Rothschild
Q: Can you describe a bit what is your job as head wine maker in a champagne house?
The job is to be connected to the vineyard and the wine grower, make the right choices at each step of vinification, test aging, and guide the wine from vineyard to bottling while preserving the wine's expression and ensuring balance for the final blend.
