Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S1 Episode 24 - Anselm Murphy Pt 2
Q: What was the climb up Kanchenjunga like compared to Everest?
Kanchenjunga felt tougher overall because of less fixed infrastructure, longer remoteness, and harsher conditions, which made the ascent more demanding physically and technically, despite being lower in height than Everest.
S1 Episode 24 - Anselm Murphy Pt 2
Q: So Anselm, I don't know much about Kanchenjunga. How do you go about getting to the top of that one? Is it siege style like Everest?
Yes, it's a siege-style ascent with multiple camps and a long summit day, but the route often feels more exposed and technically challenging due to less fixed rope coverage and tougher weather; you plan extensively for a prolonged ascent with longer days and significant altitude exposure.
S1 - Episode Twenty One - Jen Copeland Pt 2
Q: What would you say to listeners who are unsure about tackling Everest?
You need to have enough skill to look after yourself in the mountains, and if you have any doubt, you shouldn’t be there.
S1 - Episode Twenty One - Jen Copeland Pt 2
Q: How was the weather on Summit Day?
The weather was pretty good with some wind, making the climb challenging, but it was nothing wild.
S1 - Episode Nineteen - Linda Blakely
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring mountaineers?
Linda advised that aspiring climbers must look after their mental and physical sides to prepare for the challenges of high altitude climbing.
