The acknowledgment of France's responsibility in the deportation of Jews by Jacques Chirac in 1995 significantly revived interest in restitution efforts.

Q: Can you talk a little bit about those restitution efforts and what was happening after the war and trying to recover and bring things back?
Restitution efforts began even before the end of the war, and a significant number of artworks were successfully returned, although many remain lost, buried under bureaucracy and legal complications.
