  • The best whiskey podcast I’ve heard

I’ve listened to a few podcasts about whiskey and this one is by far the best. I’ve been listening to every episode since the beginning in 2005 and never get bored listening. Lots to learn and it’s like a living encyclopedia of whiskey and bourbon for those who have any interest at all. Excellent!!!

  • An extremely informative podcast

Updating my original review (below) as it is several years old… this continues to be a very informative and entertaining podcast. The format has remained the same. I especially appreciate that this podcast covers all types of whiskey news, topics, and tasting notes, so there is much to enjoy.

Each show covers many areas, yet is not rushed through. The interviews are very interesting. I continue to enjoy this podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Talisker Magma: Whisky With a Bit of Skye
Q: What makes the Talisker 47 so unusual besides being the oldest Talisker bottled?
The finishing casks are Virgin American Oak from Missouri that are toasted rather than charred, and the barrels were finished using volcanic rock heated in a specialized setup, which together impart a unique spice and maritime character while maintaining Talisker's DNA.
Certified Craft: Coming to a Store Near You
Q: How will consumers tell if a brand is certified craft, beyond seeing the seal on a bottle?
Consumers can look for the seal on bottles, websites, packaging, label neck tags, and shelf materials; the seal serves as a recognized marker of craft status and independent ownership.
Certified Craft: Coming to a Store Near You
Q: What was the need for a certification, a seal for Craft Spirits?
The hosts explain that a certification seal helps distinguish small, independent craft producers from larger corporations, providing a trusted symbol that can improve consumer understanding and support for craft products.
Single Oak Bourbon: Buffalo Trace's Single Oak Project Realized
Q: Did you do it? Did you achieve the goal of creating the perfect bourbon?
The response was that there is no single perfect bourbon—the pursuit continues, and the Holy Grail, while sought after, remains out there as a guiding ideal.
Single Oak Bourbon: Buffalo Trace's Single Oak Project Realized
Q: Tell me about the Single Oak Project. Where this started back in 1999, if I remember right?
The project explored effects of wood and environment on whiskey, with testing across multiple variables like grain, rick house, char level, and tree position, leading to consumer feedback that highlighted barrel 80 as the standout.
