  • The best whiskey podcast I’ve heard

I’ve listened to a few podcasts about whiskey and this one is by far the best. I’ve been listening to every episode since the beginning in 2005 and never get bored listening. Lots to learn and it’s like a living encyclopedia of whiskey and bourbon for those who have any interest at all. Excellent!!!

  • An extremely informative podcast

Updating my original review (below) as it is several years old… this continues to be a very informative and entertaining podcast. The format has remained the same. I especially appreciate that this podcast covers all types of whiskey news, topics, and tasting notes, so there is much to enjoy.

Each show covers many areas, yet is not rushed through. The interviews are very interesting. I continue to enjoy this podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Distilling the Artisan Way
Q: How has contract distilling been affected recently and what does the future look like?
Peterson describes a slowdown in contract work with larger distilleries taking on more projects, brands without a home source seeking options, and a cautious outlook while anticipating growth as the industry rebalances post-pandemic.
Distilling the Artisan Way
Q: Tell me about the two new bottled-in-bond releases and how they taste.
Peterson explains the Four Grain and High Rye Bottled-in-Bond reflect in-house experimentation with mash bills and chocolate malt, aiming for balanced flavors and good reviews, with the four grain leaning toward doughy, baking-spice notes and the high rye pleasing a different subset of whisky lovers.
"Bottom Shelf:" A Book that Belongs on the Top Shelf
Q: What has been the impact of bourbon tourism in the current market?
Bourbon tourism continues to thrive, supporting distillers as they sell special bottles directly and ensuring their revenue stays strong.
"Bottom Shelf:" A Book that Belongs on the Top Shelf
Q: Why did you decide to write about your personal struggles in your book?
I felt that sharing my story could help others, and I wanted to show how bourbon played a significant role in my recovery.
A Slumping Market for Scotch Whisky?
Q: You've warned that more businesses will close their doors for good this year. Are you hearing any signs of distress among the industry?
Mark Kent mentioned that a recent report indicated that 20% of all distilleries are showing signs of distress, affecting not just the distilleries but the entire supply chain.
