  • LOVE this podcast

I absolutely love, love this podcast. It’s funny and informative. Katherine is a great host, is very funny and great at keeping the conversation flowing making it an easy listen. Dr Nichola brings fantastic advice (would be nice to have her providing more advice / or further discussion on the choices made and the impact they have whether positive or negative. But overall, it’s a great contrast of interesting but scientifically factual and informative. Guest choices

  • So interesting

I love anything Katherine Ryan does but this podcast surprised me with how interesting it is as it’s not normally the type of thing I’d listen to but it’s amazing to hear all about how the body ages and Katherine is great at interviewing guests

BURNOUT: How to tell if your body's been pushed too far
Q: Hi, Dr. Nic, this is Amy. I'm 34 and recently stepped back from a high-pressure job because I felt completely depleted. Can you help me understand how burnout affects inflammation and what signs it's improving?
Burnout raises baseline inflammation, which can manifest as fatigue, poor skin quality, brain fog, and being run down; as inflammation and stress decrease through consistent recovery, these signs should gradually improve.
BURNOUT: How to tell if your body's been pushed too far
Q: Hi, Dr. Nic, I've hit burnout twice in the last five years and I'm terrified of what that stress is doing to my body as I age. Could you explain what chronic burnout actually does on a cellular level and whether any of it is reversible?
Chronic burnout leagues your stress response into permanent dysregulation, increasing inflammation and shortening telomeres, which accelerates aging; however, this damage is not permanent and is reversible through reducing stress, improving sleep, practicing therapy or meditation, and engaging in lifestyle changes that lower inflammation.
HOW DID PRUE DO IT?: The science behind Dame Prue Leith's ASTONISHING biological age result
Q: How much does genetics weight in aging, and how much can lifestyle override genetics?
Genetics accounts for roughly 20% of lifespan, with lifestyle and environment shaping the rest. Shared lifestyle patterns in long-lived populations matter as much as DNA, so diet, social connection, movement, and purpose can substantially modify genetic expression.
HOW DID PRUE DO IT?: The science behind Dame Prue Leith's ASTONISHING biological age result
Q: Hi, Dr. Nic, what does the science say about time-restricted eating for longevity in women?
Time-restricted eating can improve metabolic health and insulin sensitivity, but for women—especially in their 40s and beyond—it's important to avoid overly long fasts; a 12 to 14 hour overnight window is usually sufficient and less likely to disrupt sleep or menstrual cycles.
Chloe Burrows : Parties, Anxiety and ADHD
Q: What changes could improve her sleep and, by extension, her biological age?
Establishing a consistent sleep schedule, reducing alcohol, optimizing room temperature, and incorporating a daily unwind routine could improve REM sleep and potentially reverse some aging markers.
