  • So interesting to hear the horse stories

As the sister of a forever horse lover I listened to the podcast where she shared her love of horses and the remarkable stories revolving around her horses. I found myself wanting to hear other “horse peoples “ stories and really got drawn in. I learned a few things, and look forward to talking to my sister about the other guests I listened to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Joel Desmarteau • Breeding with Passion, Purpose, Patience & Precision
Q: Tell us about the big turning point or 'magic' horse that stood out in your career.
Mirage was the horse that put Joel on the map and sparked ongoing breeding ambition, but Alara is arguably the most influential mare in his global program, shaping future generations through her daughters and granddaughters.
Katherine Kirby • From First Ride to US Nationals, A Life with Arabian Horses
Q: How did breeding become a core part of your program, and what have you learned from that experience?
She explains that breeding began as a natural progression after success with show horses, selecting foals and stallions carefully, and finding deep satisfaction in producing a horse she both bred and trained, which deepens her involvement and impact in the industry.
Katherine Kirby • From First Ride to US Nationals, A Life with Arabian Horses
Q: What moment made you realize you were all in on this path and wanted to pursue it at the highest level?
A defining moment came when she watched a video of Rock On VA being ridden, decided to pursue that level of riding, and subsequently purchased him, marking a turning point toward elite competition and later buying Windebray to continue the journey.
Katherine Kirby • From First Ride to US Nationals, A Life with Arabian Horses
Q: So Katherine, take us back to the beginning. How did you first find the Arabian Horse?
She describes a family lineage with horses starting in South Dakota, being guided by her grandfather and father, and a pivotal invitation to visit Performance Plus Arabians which ultimately steered her toward Arabian horses and show circuit participation.
Jim Hagale • Building a Family Legacy Through Arabian Horses
Q: Let's change the speed a little bit. Now that you are a newly elected board member of AHA, what are your thoughts? Do you feel they are going to put forward some programs to create growth for us and equality in the horse business?
Jim explains support for better access to shows, removal of certain qualification barriers, and a goal to align halter and performance disciplines to grow participation and enthusiasm.
