Join Andy and James as they finish an unfinishable board game and whine about it.

SPI’s The Campaign For North Africa is a comically complicated board game that feels like a practical joke. It was published in 1978, and to this day it remains unfinished. For some reason (perhaps masochism), Andy and James will be playing the 1,500 hour board game to completion - no matter the toll on their minds

  • Subtle, Humble, Brave

One might not think that a podcast about two guys playing an insanely complicated board game that entails almost more bookkeeping than actual play would be very entertaining. But listening to James and Andy journey through the deserts of their minds as they come to grips with the Herculean task they’ve set for themselves feels quite a bit like, well, hanging out with a couple of mates. Excited to listen for the next decade as this project trudges on! A great listen for wargamers and non-wargamer... more

  • Great but could be more!

As listeners we could really do with outsiders perspectives (Saranne and Jay) they would go into depths about the weather etc…

  • Fun podcast

The first 17 episodes I would give 2 stars but the rest is great, if you want to start listening skip to episode 18 unless you want to hear them moaning about how horrible the game is, planning a new world order and advertising some weird drink. They actually start the game in like episode 18

  • Followed for the board game, stayed for the rapport.

It is clear that Andy and James have been friends for a long time which helps to create an entertaining atmosphere. Learning the game history, the war it was based on, and how each session of theirs has gone would not be half as interesting, or even be worth immortalizing without the wit and banter each friend brings to the “game table.”

Two longtime friends chronicle a famously unfinished WWII board game campaign, blending intricate tactical discussion with laid-back banter, pop-culture tangents, and listener mail. Episodes weave deep game-state analysis (movement, supply, weather, and rule quirks) with history notes and ongoing plans for live shows, creating a hybrid of strategy diary and conversational history lesson that appeals to both hardcore wargamers and casual listeners.
