Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

War Stories, Episode 1: A British Infantry Officer in Afghanistan, 2007
Q: How did Private Gray's death affect the unit, and how did morale evolve over the tour?
The death initially prompted professional mourning, followed by a surge in resolve as the battalion focused on maintaining operational tempo and honoring fallen comrades. Leadership ensured continued operations, with morale reinforced by successful patrols and near-term victories, and by personal contact with families and support networks back home.
War Stories, Episode 1: A British Infantry Officer in Afghanistan, 2007
Q: Can you describe the first major contact you faced and what you learned from that engagement?
We were confronted by a coordinated ambush with enemy fire from multiple directions as we extended into Salkani. The experience underscored the limits of visibility in dense urban terrain, the importance of pre-planned arcs of fire, and the need for decisive, well-coordinated use of indirect fire to relieve pressure and enable extraction while preserving lives.
War Stories, Episode 1: A British Infantry Officer in Afghanistan, 2007
Q: What was the mission on the ground in Nauzad, and how did you and your platoon approach it tactically?
The mission was a ground-holding operation to disrupt Taliban influence and provide security for the civilian population. We patrolled extensively, sought to meet civilians, and mapped threats and routes to anticipate enemy activity, operating with three platoons in a company group and a fire support element to enable rapid fires if contact occurred.
24 Hours at the Capitol: Nora Neus on January 6, the Far Right and American Nationalism
Q: Will this happen again and how might it happen next time?
There's a concern about whether Donald Trump will run for a third term, which could escalate tensions further, depending on how events unfold leading up to the next election.
24 Hours at the Capitol: Nora Neus on January 6, the Far Right and American Nationalism
Q: What is the role of social media in the January 6th events?
Social media allowed for the rapid organization and mobilization of supporters, contributing to the insurrection's planning and execution.
