  • Bravi!

A brilliant and captivating podcast. The two perspectives mesh and contrast beatifically in a wonderful theological repartee, offering a lighthearted but serious approach to the Episcopal church and the Christian faith. Thank you both for this gift and may God continue to bless you in your ministries and your bowling.

  • Insightful and interesting commentary

As a cradle Episcopalian who is growing in faith, this podcast has brought all kinds of clarity (and more questions) about church doctrine. I look forward to Friday. David and Fr. Dominic every other week to illuminate something contemporary and/or historic about my beloved Church. If you are at all interested in why we do what we do in the EC, this podcast is for you!

  • Breathed new life

As a long-time Anglo-Catholic - Fr Dominic & Br David Benedict’s (both priests for those who are keeping score) unpacking of the Articles of Religion have unexpectedly breathed new life into my own faith-life. No matter what stripe of Episcopalian or Anglican you might be - I highly recommend this podcast. I am NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer and these guys make difficult to understand aspects of theology accessible if not understandable - often addressing the why of issues that seem diff... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 12: WTD Mailbag!
Q: What is the role of the creeds in faith and doubt?
Faith is a trust that coexists with doubt; the creeds are a compass for prayer and belief, not a final ledger of propositions to prove.
Ep. 12: WTD Mailbag!
Q: Is inclusive orthodoxy compatible with holding traditional doctrine?
Yes, by keeping core creeds as essential while welcoming diverse interpretations and embracing the Holy Spirit's ongoing work in the church.
Ep. 12: WTD Mailbag!
Q: Could you talk about what the labels high church, broad church, and low church mean in practice?
They describe liturgical styles and ecclesiology more than strict doctrines; high church tends toward formality and hierarchy, low church toward simplicity, and broad church seeks multiple services and breadth in teaching.
Ep. 24: Article XXVIII. Of the Lord's Supper.
Q: Can you summarize how the shifts in Rite I vs Rite II affect our understanding of the body and blood in the Eucharist?
Explains that Rite I emphasizes the corporal phrasing tied to the Elizabethan era, while Rite II centers more on the action of receiving and the Holy Spirit's role in making the sacrament effective for believers, reflecting a range of Anglican comprehensiveness.
Ep. 24: Article XXVIII. Of the Lord's Supper.
Q: What was your pastoral response to concerns about receiving unworthily, and how does that shape understanding today?
Discussion of Paul's letters context, the communal aspect of communion, and how catechesis and personal moral discernment play into who should receive, avoiding a purely legalistic or punitive approach.
