Celebrating the people who help us succeed at Vol State and other ultras. Those people who help us get to the start, get through the miles and then put up with us afterwards. They always love and support us no matter how muddy or sweaty we are. On this show we acknowledge and talk with participants, friends, family, crew and most of all, Road Angels.

Hal is a trooper. He made it over 200 miles on destroyed feet and only DNFed because he overslept. I'm pretty partial to this one since his wife saved my day 1 with a PayDay bar!

Lisa has more energy than almost anyone I've ever met. She and her Trash Panda gang have the best stories from this year's Vol State. Make sure you aren't drinking anything that you might spit out when you listen to this one!

James took the lessons he learned from 2024's race (with significant foot issues) and remedied most of it in 2025. He helps you know what might happen and what to do when it does. This is a must listen for lessons learned.

Sam is the first of the Trash Pandas that I interviewed so you can get a male's eye view of this group that stuck together for at least 9 days!

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Season 2 - Episode #11 - Lisa Decker
Q: What did it feel like when you actually did finish?
There was a lot of relief, all the emotions I feel like were there. It was fun having Jessica and Sam to sit down with, recapping our journey and knowing we made it to the end.
Season 2 - Episode #11 - Lisa Decker
Q: So, other than picking Scott's brain, if you did have any lows during the race, what was it that got you through?
I would use my senses to kind of calm myself down, especially at night, I would look up at the stars or the clouds, listening to the frogs and the crickets and the sound of my feet to center myself and remind myself hey, you get to do this.
Season 2 - Episode #11 - Lisa Decker
Q: How do you find out about Vol State?
I've had a few friends do it, and a close friend of mine, Scott Tyner, is a veteran. He's done it several years, and every time I see him do it, I'm like, man, that looks like so much fun.
Season 2 - Episode #10 - James McNichols
Q: What made you keep going when you thought you wanted to quit?
The understanding of my family and the time taken for training inspired me not to let them down.
Season 2 - Episode #10 - James McNichols
Q: How did you find out about Vol State?
I saw a video about it on YouTube and thought it looked impossible.
