  • Belted vs unbelted

What you said about Worker’s Compensation and not being seat belted is not correct. Former governor Bob Taft passed the law that said if you are not seat belted and you are not performing life safety operations in the back of an ambulance and get into an accident, then you are not covered by workers compensation. Q: What ongoing training or QA processes exist in such a busy system?

Prehospital Paradigm Podcast – City of Cleveland EMS Part 3
Q: How burdened are you by overdoses in the city, and what are you doing about it?
The responders describe implementing community outreach, Narcan kit distribution, and partnerships with Thrive for Change and Project Dawn to connect patients with resources, alongside a broader push into community paramedicine to reduce repeat 911 calls and stabilize patients in place when possible.
Understanding Sepsis for EMS - Part 1
Q: Could we talk about SERS a little bit?
The guests explain SERS criteria as a practical, field-friendly checklist to identify potential sepsis when full lab data isn't available, emphasizing that sepsis can be present without fever and that altered mental status, elevated respiratory rate, and hypotension are key indicators to flag the possibility of sepsis.
Expanding Prehospital Addiction Care – Live (From Amherst Fire)
Q: What is buprenorphine and why combine it with naloxone (Suboxone)?
Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist that helps treat withdrawal and supports recovery; naloxone is included to deter misuse, especially if the medication is diverted for injection; together they provide a safer, abuse-deterrent option that can be used in prehospital settings to engage patients in care.
Expanding Prehospital Addiction Care – Part 1
Q: Operationally, how are they carrying and distributing the Narcan kits?
The kits are provided by the Ohio Department of Health, tracked through surveys, and are restocked when needed to ensure easy access for EMS crews.
