Episode 5: UEG Journal September Spotlight
Q: That's good, Juna. So from a practical point of view, as a physician, I work closely with this patient in HPV medicine. So does it depend upon the type of cyst, whether this is like IPMN or side branch IPMN or any other side of benign cyst?
Stratification is needed to distinguish lowest-risk from highest-risk cysts; small, stable cysts appear reassuring and may warrant looser surveillance, while high-risk cysts remain challenging to identify and require careful assessment and monitoring.
Episode 5: UEG Journal September Spotlight
Q: But this comes with anxiety, cause and strain to the healthcare systems. And that's where your study comes up, Juna. Can you briefly explain what the Pacific Trail set out to answer?
The Pacific cohort aimed to determine the actual yield of pancreatic cyst surveillance, moving beyond guideline opinions to assess outcomes in a large, long-term, multicenter cohort and to inform how surveillance could be adjusted based on observed risk.
UEG Journal Best Paper Award
Q: What makes your marker panel different from circulating tumor DNA or other circulating markers studied previously?
Unlike prior studies that prognosticated risk or were evaluated at a single time point, this panel analyzes follow-up samples to detect actual recurrence as it happens, potentially enabling earlier intervention.
UEG Journal Best Paper Award
Q: Could you elaborate more on the study design and the role of the Biopac Consortium?
The study pooled serum samples collected at post-surgical follow-up visits across multiple centers, with clearly defined relapse and relapse-free groups, validated by centralized pathology, and analyzed using a real-time PCR workflow on microfluidic cards.
