  • Short and sweet

As a listener of many boardgame podcasts it’s refreshing to have a podcast in a format that is just short, sharp and to the point. Every episode is informative with no time wasted and it feels like normal board game conversations you would have with friends and family rather than some of the more heavily produced podcasts fantastic. An essential lesson and the one podcast I’ll always make time for as soon as I see a new episode emerge

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#107 - HeroQuest: Why this 90s gaming classic still rules - An interview with The Fair Weather-Man
Q: Are there notable differences between the original and Advanced HeroQuest that influence how people play today?
Advanced HeroQuest offers a grittier, more RPG-like experience with deeper mechanics, while standard HeroQuest remains simpler and more accessible; players often mix both depending on preference and group readiness.
#107 - HeroQuest: Why this 90s gaming classic still rules - An interview with The Fair Weather-Man
Q: How have expansions and modern tools changed the experience for players who grew up with the original game?
Expansions add more monsters, mechanics, and craft options while still leveraging the original aesthetic; modern apps streamline dungeon management, yet many players still use the tactile, hardware-based setup they loved as kids.
#107 - HeroQuest: Why this 90s gaming classic still rules - An interview with The Fair Weather-Man
Q: What makes HeroQuest continue to resonate with both longtime fans and new players today?
Its combination of approachable rules, distinctive miniatures, and a sandbox approach that invites homebrew and customization, plus the nostalgia factor, keeps it appealing across generations.
#111 - Warhammer Spearhead, Coffee Table Fantasy Gaming
Q: Why would someone choose Spearhead over building a full Army for a larger game?
Because Spearhead provides an immediate, self-contained experience with a manageable cost, fast setup, and immediate tabletop action. It allows players to enjoy the aesthetics and tactical feel of Warhammer without committing to a full army or complex list-building, and it can be reused with other games and as a hobby project, making it a practical gateway for newcomers and busy hobbyists alike.
#111 - Warhammer Spearhead, Coffee Table Fantasy Gaming
Q: Can you explain what Spearhead is and how it fits into the broader Warhammer product line?
Spearhead is the introductory, fast-playing starter for Age of Sigmar that comes as a boxed set with two armies. It emphasizes ready-to-play content with no list-building, serving as an onboarding experience into the wider Sigmar universe while still offering depth through War Scrolls, Battle Tactics, and arena mats. It sits alongside other entry points like Combat Patrol and Kill Team, but is distinct in its compact scope and emphasis on quick, approachable play.
