這週五（12/19），台灣受到創傷性的打擊。我們是可愛的動森島，雖然時有社會新聞，卻從未想過會在街上遇到如此可怕的隨機攻擊。
事發後，有很多討論的聲音。有的理性、有的感性，有的則帶有特定目的，讓人看得很心亂。痛失親友的，逃過一劫的，隔著螢幕無能為力的，大家在悲劇後都有自己的功課要面對。我們沒辦法改變已經發生的事情，卻能想辦法讓悲劇不再重演。希望這集倉促趕出來的Podcast能提供給聽到的人一點慰藉，又或者是啟發。

「要不是因為吐司來英國留學，我其實從沒想過自己有天會在國外生活。」這是Irene來英國後，很常說的一句話。
撇除掉諸多生活習性上的落差，還有東西不好吃的問題，讓Irene如此有感而發的隔閡也是許多台灣人的罩門——外語能力。台灣人普遍對自己的英文能力缺乏自信，這有很大一部分得歸咎於大家在求學時期面對分數的挫折。如此負面的自我認知，反而會讓我們在遇到需要使用英文的場合時，因為畏縮而發揮不出應有的實力，真的很可惜。
