  • Excellent Podcast

Great new knife making podcast. These two guys sound very knowledgeable, with one as the experienced knife maker and the other as the new up an coming maker. Their voices are smooths and I even laughed a few times. The Echo Blades guy seems very down to earth and relatable. Very much looking forward to every new episode!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E126: Hanging with the boys
Q: How critical is heating quench oil to 120 before quenching?
The hosts explain that heating to 120 is not universally required; Parks 50 has a defined working range and canola oil behaves differently. Heating is only necessary to improve cooling with certain oils, and you should avoid overheating the oil if you are quenching multiple blades because the oil will quickly become too hot.
E107: Jerid is sleepy
Q: How do you keep your passion for knife making when you go full time?
Different makers have different approaches, but many keep it fresh by trying new things, changing up tasks, teaching, or collaborating, and taking breaks from repetitive production to explore tooling and new designs.
E90: Frank and peens
Q: What epoxy should I use for making micarta?
I recommend using a slow-setting epoxy, as that's essential for making micarta properly.
E92: Mammoth Breath
Q: What can someone with carpal tunnel do to continue learning and progressing in making?
They can focus on designs and planning without hands-on work.
E79: Sponsor Take Over - Derailed
Q: What's the hardest part about setting up the new shop?
The hardest part has been decision fatigue and balancing all the tasks at two locations while afraid of the financial risks involved.
