  • Great Career Device

Enjoyed listening to Ben Carlson. Have read a couple of his books. I’m facilitating between becoming a broker or financial planner in my next career move. I value his opinion and appreciate his guidance. I agree with him that planners will increase in demand as the baby boomer generation grows in retiree status. Seems like a good job security choice for me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A CIO's Take on Geopolitics, the Dollar, and the Case for Going Global
Q: What's your view on gold in a diversified portfolio?
Gold is viewed as a trade rather than a core strategic asset due to lack of cash flows and valuation uncertainties; it can be considered in the context of systemic risk but is not a staple of allocation.
A CIO's Take on Geopolitics, the Dollar, and the Case for Going Global
Q: How international is Mercer Advisors' portfolio, and has non-US exposure increased?
We maintain a global market-weighted approach with roughly two-thirds US and one-third non-US equities, and we're overweight non-US exposure relative to many RIAs, highlighting opportunities in developed and emerging markets like India.
A CIO's Take on Geopolitics, the Dollar, and the Case for Going Global
Q: In terms of asset allocation, what are the notable changes you've made recently?
We've deliberately incorporated more private investments across real assets, real estate, infrastructure, private credit, and private equity, with an emphasis on diversification across vintages and asset classes rather than chasing episodic fund inflows.
Space, AI, and Private Equity Trends
Q: What signals would indicate SpaceX or similar firms might eventually go public?
Significant uncertainty around timing, macro conditions, and strategic readiness; when a company reaches scale with predictable cash flows and a clear path to profitability, and markets perceive a favorable IPO window, it could become a catalyst for broader public market participation.
Space, AI, and Private Equity Trends
Q: Why do you think companies are staying private for longer?
Beyond regulatory burdens, it's attractive for founders to avoid quarterly earnings pressure and build with longer horizons; private capital has grown, providing more funding options and liquidity tools, which reduces the immediacy of an IPO yet increases potential value creation.
