  • Where bad advice gets dismantled

What a fun show for all of us who have suffered with trite, meaningless, misguided advice over the years! Erica and Erin take common sayings and take a critical look at them, exposing why they are offensive or why they just don’t hold up. It’s not just about the words though, it’s about the emotions behind our reactions against these sometimes harmful cliches.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"Don't Confuse Effort With Results" with Nick Power
Q: When you think of the phrase, don't confuse effort with results, who does that phrase land with in your own experience?
It lands as a reminder that early in my career, the drive to ship and show progress could overlook the deeper quality of work, and that the right approach is to pair effort with clear, meaningful outcomes.
"What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger" with Lee Densmer
Q: Let's get right into this phrase of what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. So, Lee, when you hear this phrase, is there a memory that comes to mind for you?
Two moments around my son's illness where someone said the phrase, and I realized it lacked empathy and minimized the fear and practical needs of caregiving; it highlighted how people default to a tidy story instead of sitting with what's really happening.
“Scale or Fail” with Adriana Tica
Q: What role does goals and context play in determining whether scale is the right aim for someone?
Adriana highlights the necessity of aligning goals with personal context and values; she notes that not every entrepreneur should pursue a nine- or ten-figure business if it wouldn't fit their lifestyle or priorities, and that reevaluating goals is essential as circumstances change.
“Scale or Fail” with Adriana Tica
Q: Can you describe how you help solopreneurs reframe scale and find a path that fits their strengths and life context?
She shares that she starts by following the money and assessing where the gaps are, focusing on distribution, demand, and positioning; she emphasizes that services can be scaled effectively if the business aligns with core strengths, and that community-based models can provide scalable value without becoming a full-blown agency.
“Scale or Fail” with Adriana Tica
Q: When you think about the Scale or Fail mindset, who comes to mind and why do you think this belief has persisted?
Adriana explains that many people latch onto growth narratives because they're fed by success stories and the lure of rapid expansion, but the real issue is misalignment between one's strengths, audience, and the available demand; the mindset often ignores the long, steady work of building profitable levers beyond simply increasing revenue.
