  • Love the podcast

Grayson does a great job interviewing guests with unique perspectives on the advancement of mobility. The episode with Peter Weiss on the intersection between autonomous vehicles and medical technology advancements was interesting. I enjoyed the discussion bout how much the current pandemic has advanced medical artificial intelligence. Great podcast.

  • All great interviews by Grayson Brulte but...

...the interview with Deepmap's Mark Wheeler stood out to me and is an awesome episode. I was aware of DeepMap, Inc. from a macro-view but Grayson Brulte's conversation with Mark Wheeler not only gives an in-depth picture of the company but Mark's journey from his Apple 2+ and all his experience along the way. Thank you both for a great one!

Keep them coming SAE & Grayson, really enjoying listening and learning!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

344. How Aerospace Safety Standards Enable the Future of Flight
Q: How is AI being considered in safety-critical aerospace systems today?
AI is still in early stages for safety-critical development; it cannot be fully qualified due to non-determinism, so tools and human-guided development assurance are used to identify, mitigate, and validate potential AI-induced errors while keeping a human in the loop.
344. How Aerospace Safety Standards Enable the Future of Flight
Q: How does the industry ensure safety when software and hardware become increasingly complex, and what is the role of development assurance?
Development assurance provides a structured approach to show compliance with safety requirements (like FAR 25.1309) by verifying that even when exhaustive verification isn't possible, the product remains safe through mitigations and layered analyses across system, hardware, and software levels.
344. How Aerospace Safety Standards Enable the Future of Flight
Q: What role do standards play in enabling aerospace complexity to turn into real, scalable products?
Standards give a common language across companies and a shared reference framework that regulators can understand, which streamlines compliance and enables teams to manage complexity more predictably.
343. SAE JA1016: Scaling the Future of UAVs with Battery Interoperability
Q: What is the future of uncrewed aerial vehicles in the context of JA1016?
The future looks expansive; as more operations move to civilian and commercial uses like mapping, delivery, and inspection, having standardized batteries and data reduces risk, improves cost structure, and enables production scale that supports both private and defense applications.
341. Why the Biggest Challenge for SDVs Isn't the Technology
Q: What role do open standards and open source play in SDV?
Open standards and open source foster faster, safer, and more interoperable software across vehicles; the industry is moving toward collaboration (e.g., Autosar, Eclipse SDV, Coveza) to converge ecosystems instead of building isolated, proprietary stacks.
