  • Humble swagger

I’m very thankful Goerge is willing share his decades of learning about bird dogs so we can shorten our learning curve making our time with our dogs more productive and enjoyable for handler and pup. George’s book and pod cast come across as really wanting to help us and the dog-not sell something.

He’s giving back to what he loves.

Thanks George and thanks for your service!

Listener Questions
Q: What should you do if one dog starts playing keep away with the toy when another dog is fetching?
George advises monitoring the dynamics and ensuring no dog feels possessive or aggressive, suggesting to work each dog separately until both are comfortable with sharing toys during playtime.
Listener Questions
Q: What advice do you have for a dog that has a fear of loud noises, particularly gunfire?
George suggests using CDs designed to desensitize dogs to noise, starting gradually, and pairing it with positive experiences to help the dog gain confidence around loud noises.
Listener Questions
Q: What are your thoughts on keeping a dog interested in track rather than treat?
George mentions using various methods to maintain a dog's engagement in tracking, emphasizing the importance of teaching them to associate the tracking experience with a reward, whether it be by using birds or other interesting objects.
Listener Questions
Q: Is 70 to 75 yards out for a hunting dog too close? How do you encourage dogs to quarter?
George implies that it depends on the conditions where you hunt, but he advises allowing dogs to range and using methods to teach them to quarter by moving side to side to encourage them to cover more ground.
Listener Questions
Q: When sending a pup to fetch, what command, if any, do you give on the retrieve?
George recommends using the command 'fetch' every time a dog goes out to retrieve something, as it establishes the concept of fetching and builds a foundation for later commands like holding and coming with the object.
