  • The best and most entertaining place to get your retro news!

I’ve been listening to TWiR for about 3-4 years now. I never miss an episode. It’s a great way to keep up with all things retro. The hosts are great to listen to and it’s an excellent set up, as they live in different parts of the world so the discussion is nice and balanced.

    Great guests too.

  • Take a trip back to a better time

TWIR is a highlight of every weekend. It takes you back to a time without responsibilities, 24 hour marketing, micro transactions and data collecting. It’s like a having a very knowledgeable group of mates talking about games you used to play and the culture surrounding them. The news and interviews with hobbyists help keep you up to date with what’s going on in retro tech to make going back and playing the games of your past easier or with a different perspective. Highly recommended.

  • A weekly treat

Being on the advanced side of my 40s, this fantastic podcast speaks directly to my computing generation. This appearing on a Saturday morning makes my weekend. My first computer was an Acorn Electron, followed by an Atari ST and then PCs, with a slew of game consoles during and since. It isn’t just nostalgia though, the hosts Dave, Jason and Chris are superb company and their infectious enthusiasm has opened my eyes to many retro machines and projects I was not even aware of. Excellent stuff.

Pocket Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum - This Week In Retro 267
Q: Kevin, did you have anything on these handhelds and the 64C Ultimate versus the bread bin design?
Kevin notes the 64C Ultimate is an evolution of the original, using the same molds and a more modern presentation, but the core chipset and performance are comparable to earlier versions; the real discussion centers on design preferences, collectibility, and software compatibility rather than a dramatic performance leap.
Neo-Geo is Back & Locking Down The C64 Ultimate - This Week In Retro 265
Q: What makes the Neo Geo still compelling as a modern retro purchase?
The combination of arcade-accurate hardware in a home system, the strong library of classics, and the ongoing availability of related content (like re-releases and available ports) keeps it appealing, despite high prices.

Q: What single Apple product changed lives the most according to the hosts?
The Macintosh is highlighted as a revolutionary platform that defined modern personal computing, with iTunes and the iPhone subsequently amplifying its impact on consumer technology.
The History Of Shoot 'Em Ups - This Week In Retro 256

The appeal of shooters lies in their arcade style simplicity that allows for quick gameplay while still being able to delve deeper for high scores.
PicoIDE Has Arrived! - This Week In Retro 253
Q: Is this purely at the moment just for PCs or is there any future development that may see this kind of device compatible with consoles that use CD-ROMs?
The primary focus right now is PCs, but the open-source nature means it could be adapted for consoles in the future.
