  • Pretty good podcast

This is a pretty good podcast. The hosts are very knowledgable. My only criticism is that there is a lot of talking - it’s a music podcast, so maybe there should be some music or playing. Also, they seem to only interview trombone players. Maybe they could have some doctors or lawyers on. They did so much for during the pandemic. Anyway, just my thoughts.

  • Caring and Prepared=Amazing Interviews

Nick and Sebastian really get so much out of the guests they have on their show. And I would attribute that to how prepared they are and also to the care and consideration they have for their guests. Some guests are colleagues, some are heroes from their/our youth.

There is some pedagogy covered, but really it’s the life stories of the musicians that makes this podcast fun to listen to. Bravo fellas. Thank you for all you do.

The Best Use of Trombone During the Apocalypse
Q: Can you discuss breaking in a brand new slide?
It's a thing, depending on the trombone manufacturer and their slide tolerances. Cleaning the slide daily helps, and it just takes time for some slides to get better.
Tales of Transition, Teaching, and Triumph with Jonathan Whitaker
Q: What's the best part about being a softball dad?
The time I get to spend with her, it's unbelievable. I think the hour it takes us to drive to her lesson and the hour it takes us to get home after her lesson is like my favorite part of the week.
Tales of Transition, Teaching, and Triumph with Jonathan Whitaker
Q: What do you think your younger self would think of the life you've created today?
I think they'd be excited. I think I'm kind of doing what I always thought that I wanted to do, meaning that I wanted to be doing music.
Tales of Transition, Teaching, and Triumph with Jonathan Whitaker
Q: What advice would you give to a person starting out on a path that you've been on, wanting to do a university teaching position?
You really need to play just as well to get one of these college teaching jobs as you do to get a playing job anymore. You need to be strong in other areas like conducting, coaching chamber music, or teaching theory.
Wycliffe Gordon Live at the International Trombone Festival: From Rural Roots to Jazz Fame
Q: If you had to pick one recording, what's the recording you're most proud of?
The soundtrack to what is called Within These Gates of Mine.
