Reviews

4.6 out of 5 stars from 9 ratings
  • Too Quiet

Episodes need to be better engineered—main content is too quiet, sometimes very low, requiring turning up the volume to maximum, and then the commercials come in at a normal volume and are way too loud. Painful to listen to, disappointing because the content is good.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Samsung strike could derail the whole AI boom | Eli the Computer Guy
Q: How do labor actions at Samsung impact other players like Nvidia, Anthropic, and OpenAI?
Budgetary pressures and supply constraints can raise memory prices and tighten margins, forcing AI firms to reassess timelines and funding expectations, even if the direct labor conflict is geographically limited.
The Samsung strike could derail the whole AI boom | Eli the Computer Guy
Q: Why is the 18-day pause seen as dangerous for AI development?
Because AI companies rely on constant access to hardware, especially memory, and any disruption can stall projects, delay deployments, and slow investment, potentially derailing progress and valuations.
Opposition to data centers will define US midterms | Data Center Watch
Q: How might midterm elections influence data center policy and permitting in the future?
The host and guest discuss the hypothesis that data center issues will be central in midterm campaigns, with incumbents facing opposition and regulators potentially increasing scrutiny, leading to a mixed landscape of bans, moratoria, and negotiated concessions.
Opposition to data centers will define US midterms | Data Center Watch
Q: What is driving the shift in public opinion about data centers beyond local concerns?
The guest explains that concerns about electricity, grid reliability, water usage, noise, and a broader narrative around AI are converging to push opposition beyond purely local issues.
Ed Zitron: You are being lied to about the AI data center boom
Q: Is the wording around capacity intentionally tricky, and how does that affect investors and open AI-like companies?
Yes, the wording appears designed to mislead about actual online capacity versus contracted or in-progress capacity. This affects investors by inflating growth expectations and can lead to strategic misreads about compute availability for AI services, potentially creating a fragile financial backdrop when the real capacity does not materialize.
