  • Let’s go Trump! 🇺🇸

Mr. Gruber, is a pudgy, aging Apple Mac & iPhone reviewer that’s no longer relevant in today’s complex tech and AI world and seems lost. He’s also got a severe case of TDS which has probably gotten worse with President Trump being re-elected to the White House. But his main problem is that he’s just a terrible interviewer. MAGA🇺🇸

  • Came for Pogue, got Grubered

Came for the David Pogue Apple 50th anniversary book interview, but 70+% it was John Gruber pontificating. I came to hear about the book, not listen to John constantly adding on or re-packaging what David said. Except for the small tidbits David shared (and I enjoyed), the podcast was a turn off. Won’t be back.

  • Doesn’t Let His Guests Speak!

The host goes on and on from one topic to the next and barely lets his guest get in a word.

Five * all the way for triggering some “facts don’t care about your feelings” crowd. For the lulz. Keep up the good work, JG!

  • Worthwhile

I enjoy The Talk Show at times its a bit too geeky for me like the Stars Wars stuff. Times can go a bit long but I do enjoy the podcast. Probably only podcast I listen to in long form. Not really for MAGA creeps.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

443: ‘The Pogue Feature’, With David Pogue
Q: When did you decide to write the book, and was there a point you worried it would become a flood of similar Apple 50th anniversary books?
I was worried for the entire two years about balancing expectations from fans, critics, and the interview subjects, and about whether there would be enough unique angles to tell a compelling story without it feeling repetitive or derivative.
441: ‘Serious Opinionators’, With Adam Engst
Q: What stood out to you about the tap recents to call option disappearing in Unified, and should there be separate settings?
The disappearing option creates a usability gap; a dual-setting approach or a more explicit label would reduce confusion and crashes in Settings when toggling views.
441: ‘Serious Opinionators’, With Adam Engst
Q: Why did Apple keep both Classic and Unified views in the phone app during the iOS 26 rollout?
Because many users have muscle memory and rely on legacy behavior; preserving both views lets people gradually adapt while preserving familiar workflow.
441: ‘Serious Opinionators’, With Adam Engst
Q: The phone app, do you want to do it? (referring to the iOS 26 redesign)
I explain the redesigned Unified view and compare it with Classic, noting the benefits of choice but also the confusion around how to switch and where settings live.
423: ‘Sewing Machine Repair Shop’, With Patrick McGee
Q: What was the pivotal moment for Apple in realizing their relationship with China?
It was when Xi Jinping enters office and state media attacked Apple, leading them to realize they were not in control of the narrative.
