  • Practical AI advice for bookkeepers

Michael brings on guests who understand how real bookkeeping workflows work. The Tommy Vincent episode on Hub Analytics was a good example. No hype, just applications that make sense.

  • Excellent podcast that I look forward to weekly

Michael does such a great job interviewing the guests. The most rent episode “tips to get your business back on track” was the realest interview I’ve heard from someone that has had a successful business and ran into struggles. I was just so grateful that this episode came out because I really related in some ways. She’s had a rough year and she was willing to share her story. As soon as I started my business - there were so many obstacles and I kinda thought it was just me struggling to mak... more

  • Great podcast even if you’re not a bookkeeper

I'm not a bookkeeper but I am a business owner. However, bookkeepers are one of the professions we serve so I enjoy learning more about the industry. I found so much of the content applicable to any small business. I enjoy the variety of topics and guests.

EP538: Dr. Sabrina Starling - Work From Your Strengths: Build A Profitable Firm Without Burnout
Q: I want you to tell us how you help people work from their strengths so they don't burn out.
I explain a simple framework: identify the highest-value hour blocks, delegate everything else to capable teammates, and continually align roles with client needs and business profitability. This creates leverage, keeps the owner out of the day-to-day, and preserves time for what only they can do.
EP539: Debra Angilletta - Numbers Only Tell Half The Story: Ask Better Questions To Sell Advisory
Q: What is the first practical step to start this transition with clients?
Call your top five clients, use curiosity-based questions, and propose a 30-minute conversation to discuss observations from their books and potential advisory value.
EP539: Debra Angilletta - Numbers Only Tell Half The Story: Ask Better Questions To Sell Advisory
Q: Why is it a challenge for bookkeepers to sell advisory services?
Because many still default to compliance work and fear pushing beyond that, but with curiosity-driven questions and human-to-human connection, they can uncover opportunities and reposition themselves as strategic partners.
EP536: Melissa Broughton - Buy Before They Close: Acquiring Bookkeeping Firms The Smart Way
Q: What are the key levers that make an acquisition successful for a bookkeeping firm?
Critical factors include a solid client roster with sustainable profitability, the level of client interaction and service style, software compatibility (preferably QuickBooks Online), strong contracts with clients, and a clear plan for integrating and supporting new clients without disrupting existing operations.
EP536: Melissa Broughton - Buy Before They Close: Acquiring Bookkeeping Firms The Smart Way
Q: Do tell. What was the change that inspired the shift toward acquisitions?
The guest describes a period of rapid growth pre- and post-COVID, realizing that acquiring other bookkeeping firms could scale the business faster and provide a structured path for trained bookkeepers to start their own ventures under the same umbrella.
