  • Everything Hunting Discussed

My favourite podcast right now. Despite not being a falconer or huge into falconry, I enjoy all the aspects of all the hunting and different styles of hunting being discussed. I also love the working/hunting dog work being discussed. This podcast even inspired me to buy the sporting chance book written by Mannix. The hosts are great. Keep it up!

  • Brutally Honest & Entertaining

You guys can definitely make some serious conversations lighter. Enjoy the content on dachshunds and all the non-falconry hunting is great. Could listen to a part III with Geoff Hirschi, interesting dude. Thanks for making mundane chores go by faster.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 114 - Dr. Nick Fox OBE
Q: Is it possible to source New Zealand Falcons for private ownership?
Importing New Zealand Falcons is highly restricted; generally not available to private individuals, with licenses and conservation considerations in place, and few paths to acquire them outside established programs or breeders.
Episode 114 - Dr. Nick Fox OBE
Q: What is your opinion on flying a Goshawk at squirrels in squirrel country?
The ethical view is mixed; some say it's unethical because the squirrel can bite and the risk to the falcon is real, while others argue it depends on the handler and the training. Ultimately, if a skilled falconer is careful, it may be workable, but many observers remain cautious about the practice.
Episode 112 - Ben Makepeace
Q: Ben, where do you originally come from?
He explains being born in Oxford and living across the UK before moving to Japan, where he has lived for 23 years, highlighting the multinational path that led him into falconry.
Episode 111 - Ian Douglas
Q: How did you first get into Jim Corbett and his work?
Ian explains his lifelong fascination with Corbett sparked by childhood reading and later research, which led to collecting memorabilia, pursuing archival materials, and ultimately authoring Undiscovered Corbett.
Episode 107 - Jim Hoover
Q: What was the controversy with Harris hawks on the East Coast?
Hoover describes a regional fight over commercialization and breeding of Harris hawks, with PA falconers fearing loss of tradition and control, ultimately leading to a broader shift toward Harris hawks across the East.
