Rebecca and Abigail are such a great duo! The podcast is smart, funny, well-researched and they are really focused on intersectional perspectives. But it was the Jason mask / croc Instagram mashup that really stole my heart <3
While not typically a huge fan of the horror genre, I absolutely love The Spooky Succubus Cast! The hosts do a great job of explaining the plot of a variety of different horror movies (there’s honestly something for everyone’s taste) and then examining it with an anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and feminist lens. The hosts are smart and funny, and I really enjoy listening to them every week.
As a rule, I don’t watch horror movies, but this podcast might change my mind. Each episode is fun, super informative, and easy and interesting to follow even if you haven’t watched the films! The hosts are knowledgeable but self-deprecating and always ready to call out racist, sexist, or misogynistic tropes. Their banter is good and movie recaps are excellent!
I feel like starting a new podcast is such a commitment/investment but this is totally worth it! I definitely get more out of it when I actually watch the movies beforehand or have seen them in the past but the movie selection is great and the conversation is so smart and fun that it’s sort of been a fun new hobby for me. It’s like a syllabus for horror movies. Silly yet very thoughtful conversation. Can’t recommend enough
The Spooky Succubus-Cast hits all the right notes: whether you’ve seen the movie or not, the hosts provide a brief synopsis and critical, thoughtful political and cultural commentary that is essential to hear, with an edgy, sassy, hilarious take. Can’t wait till next Friday!
