  • My Gay Rum Trudianne B

Enjoyed listening to a female distiller of rum from such a well renowned rum labeland hear of her success in the industry. Her messages of the balance between custodianship, maintaining traditions, and innovations were interesting to listen to.

Excellent Pod cast. It’s obvious how passionate Ian & Paul are. They seem to have put their heart & soul into this project and I really wanna try this bourbon. I did try whisky many years ago but found it harsh, so I turned into a vodka girl. Being in the UK, I’m guessing the postage will be expensive, but I’m gonna have a look, purely due to this podcast, so watch this space.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

42. Maison Ferrand: inside the Planteray rebrand with Alexandre Gabriel
Q: When did you realize you could elevate Rum in addition to Cognac and Gin?
Gabriel describes a discovery process in the Caribbean, learning from Barbancourt and other distillers, and a belief that rum could stand on its own identity with terroir and heritage, leading to Planteray's focus on diverse, site-specific expressions.
36. Maya Pistola: how Rakshay Dhariwal built India's first aged, 100% agave spirit after a fire nearly destroyed it all
Q: And we're going to get into that in a little bit. But to begin with, where did your interest in the spirits and hospitality worlds come from?
I've always been drawn to hospitality; I set up India's first speakeasy and later leaned into the cocktail scene. When lockdown hit, I found a unique opportunity in premium agave spirits and decided to launch India's first 100% agave spirit, Maya Pistola, with Agave Pura as a central concept.
40. Tipple – why spirits distribution needs a shake-up
Q: What is Tipple, and what problem does it solve for brands and distributors?
Tipple is an infrastructure platform that lets brands sell online directly, integrates with marketplaces, handles all the back-end logistics like VAT and compliance, and enables B2B cross-border sales. It de-risks distributor engagement by providing real-time data and scalable capabilities, allowing brands to reach bars, restaurants, and wholesalers across multiple markets without being locked into a single distributor.
37. Brian Kinsman: we chat Scotch, prestige, affordability, and fast cars with Glenfiddich's malt master
Q: How do you view the single malts versus blends debate?
He emphasizes that it depends on occasion and consumer, with some markets preferring blends and others favoring single malts; both require craftsmanship, and neither is inherently superior.
37. Brian Kinsman: we chat Scotch, prestige, affordability, and fast cars with Glenfiddich's malt master
Q: What has the journey been like for you?
Brian describes a career starting as a chemist, progressing to support blender and then master blender, with decades of learning across different spirits, markets, and collaborations, culminating in leading significant brand expressions and the Aston Martin partnership.
