Ads in the middle, ads in the end, an unfinished story. The show itself had potential, but between the ads and the abandoned premise, it doesn't reach that potential and isn't worth listening to
Magnificent.
This show has an awesome story, deep soundscape, great voice acting and genuinely interesting worldbuilding. It's directly Lovecraftian, not in that glib kitchen-sink pastiche overloaded with references way. Instead, The Second Oil Age actually builds the source material up into a cool, coherent, cyberpunkish dystopian fiction. Highly recommended.
This podcast was right up my alley.
I love the efficient dialogue and the dark steely vibe, the ambient supportive sound design was just enough to fill in necessary gaps in the narrative and not overdone.
The narrator was superb…reminded me of Aeon Flux
The writing is tight and eloquent with an ending befitting the spirit of the story.
My only gripe was was the faux ads. As entertaining as they were, they detracted from the gravity of the storyline.
Overall, well done.
More more more please
They combine in-show, fictional ads with irl ads.
This is so obnoxious.
I understand the need for ads if you’re not paying for a sub. But when you go from a brooding, monotone narrator into an ad screaming about a new ABC show or ring cameras, separated by fictional ads for “krab steaks,” or “temporary graphene skin alteration,” it just makes it too difficult to listen to.
More so when the same ad plays multiple times in one show 🤮
20 min episodes, 10 minutes of adds, 5 minutes of monologue with 5 minutes of decent content. If you don’t have enough material, don’t make a podcasts, or do a limited series with episodes that have a decent length.
People hanging, 2 stars for yet another abandoned podcast.
I'm a fan of rich, complex stories that drop you in the middle of the action and let you figure things out for yourself. With TSOA, the great soundscape and skilled voice acting make it easier to get sucked in. Fun stuff!
The story was ok, but the podcast mixes in-universe ads with real world ads, and I really didn't like having to work out whether something was fictional/plot-relevant or someone's podcast ad. There's some gore towards the end of the season, just FYI.
A story set in a rich and beautifully constructed world. You hear advertisements and radio transmissions from it, parts of its culture and politics, and it's truly like you're visiting, for a little while. The story fits seamlessly into this world. An exceptional experience.
Same comment as others. Amazing production quality. Great story line. Very good actors. What happened? More more please!!
I loved this story and really hope more comes to light! Very interested in every episode with lots of suspense and action!
The first episode was very compelling and set up an interesting world, but not much is done with it in this first season.
The main reason i wrote this review is because i really liked the outro song of the first episode and wanted to share the name in case any one else has trouble finding it. Look up “the Hadronic Seeress and other Wyrd tales part 1” and it is the second track. I found it as a podcast of all things.
I wanted to like it! The setup is compelling and so are the brief glances we get of the characters. But it's all kind of just given to you on and never followed up on. Would have like more dynamism and stakes on the personal level. Not a bad listen, though.
I think that this podcast has a lot of potential; an interesting plot, unique characters, and compelling arguments about climate and humanity. However, the podcast is severely lacking in context for the listener. It is one thing to leave things to the imagination or for future reveal, but another thing entirely to not describe settings, context for information that is “common knowledge” in universe, and what the main character looks like.
The podcast is somewhat impersonal; it seems like it was... more
