  • Excellent raging against the machine

Cathartic, funny, insightful, and informative. It’s not for those who want a calm and peaceful time, though. These four are angry, and rightfully so, and it’s great to be able to have that cathartic experience of tearing down what needs to be torn down, with some great moments of laughter, and great care and respect respect between the podcast hosts.

  • Needs more Celeste

This podcast is great and its no surprise because Tom and Celeste are amazing. Only nitpick I have is when it comes to union stuff Id really like to hear more from Celeste. Shes the only one on who has experience with building WOCs and running campaigns. She has a million runs on the board so it would be great to hear more from her. The young white dude who takes over the conversation whenever unionism comes up clearly doesn’t have the experience or knowledge that she does.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 25 - Time to Reform the Working With Children Check (ft. Emma Håkansson)
Q: You did say you could go further into the training, but just as a, so you went from the aggregate feedback of a lot of survivors, you said around 300, I think, to suggesting that training sessions would help. Is it just because the notion is there that if anything were in place that made for a more educated workforce of people, then that might have saved people in so many situations?
Yes, the idea is that training helps equip safe adults to intervene early to prevent abuse, addressing misconceptions and promoting the understanding that adults should communicate effectively with children.
Ep 25 - Time to Reform the Working With Children Check (ft. Emma Håkansson)
Q: How has the process been generally? I mean, do you feel that your campaigning for reforms has been making headway so far?
Emma expresses cautious optimism, noting that although they formally launched the report 18 months ago with little progress, recent discussions have become more serious with potential for change if there's enough public support.
Ep 25 - Time to Reform the Working With Children Check (ft. Emma Håkansson)
Q: Can you start by telling us broadly, you know, why are you calling for reforms to specifically, I suppose, the Working With Children Check process or, you know, child care more broadly?
The Working With Children Check is just a police check which is insufficient since many perpetrators don't have a criminal conviction and there need to be preventive measures and training to ensure everyone is equipped to protect children.
Ep 18 - Let's Stop Giving Cover To Terrible People
Q: Tom, tactically, if it's tactical racism, do you think it's working?
It seems to be working for the far right in rallying their base and securing political support.
Ep 17 - HMAS Coward
Q: What is the most effective way to combat apathy toward the union and motivate others to join?
Hosts discuss various methods, emphasizing the importance of showing union effectiveness and support, rather than just seeking membership.
