Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#137 BAMR: Cardiac arrests (part 1)
Q: So Jennie, what's the next most important thing our listeners will need to do when they arrive at a cardiac arrest?
The next most important step is to get the defibrillator pads on to determine the presenting rhythm, then assess whether the rhythm is shockable or not and establish which branch of the ALS algorithm to follow.
#136 Calling Microbiology
Q: What single thing would you want ward medics to appreciate more about micro/ID?
The importance of appropriate antibiotic choices and understanding spectrum; antibiotics are not simply 'stronger is better' and misusing them can cause microbiotoxicity and harm; emphasize targeted therapy and early appropriate tests.
#136 Calling Microbiology
Q: What are the common calls from the medical reg on call and how can listeners approach them?
Common calls involve fever with unknown source or deteriorating patients on antibiotics; success depends on good history, examination, accessible guidelines, and having remote access to patient data to inform decisions.
#136 Calling Microbiology
Q: What are the best bits of a career in these specialties?
He highlights problem-solving, the breadth and depth of infections, and the ability to affect patient journeys through integrated lab and clinical work.
#136 Calling Microbiology
Q: Can you give us an insight into your normal working week in microbiology and infectious diseases?
Callum describes a typical mix of ward rounds focusing on complex infection cases, laboratory bench work reviewing results and antibiotic decisions, OPAT involvement, and some non-clinical duties like guideline work and reading new papers.
