I found Lee‘s podcast only this week and found myself listening to one and another one and another episode. Especially Ana from Colombia touched my coffee soul very deep and awoke my wish to build a sustainable business that supports coffee farmers again.

EP1660 Part 5 of 5 | What the Coffee Industry Should Learn From Benecke | Map It Forward
Q: If you could go back in time, what would you do differently in this situation?
Emerson suggests not blindly trusting longtime clients and instead conducting thorough background checks on financial solvency and the willingness to pay before signing contracts, to prevent similar losses for cooperatives.
EP1656 Part 1 of 5 | What Happened Between Benecke Coffee and Peru’s Cooperatives? (Benecke) | Map It Forward
Q: Emerson, how was your experience with Benecke and how long have you been working with them?
We started in 2025; we sold seven containers, five paid, two unpaid, and then Benecke declared insolvency, affecting ongoing shipments and payments.
EP1656 Part 1 of 5 | What Happened Between Benecke Coffee and Peru’s Cooperatives? (Benecke) | Map It Forward
Q: Óscar, we want you to introduce yourself. Tell us a little bit about what you do in this moment with the cooperatives.
I am a lawyer, working with the cooperatives in Peru for more than 15 years, handling financing issues and now serving as official creditor in Germany as the insolvency case develops.
EP1657 Part 2 of 5 | How the Benecke Coffee Trade Broke Down (Benecke Coffee) | Map It Forward
Q: How does ownership transfer under FOB contracts in this case, and when is Benecke responsible for payment?
Under the European standard contract, ownership remains with the seller until full payment is received; the buyer pays after shipment, typically 15-30 days, but delays occurred, shifting financial risk to producers.
