  • Subpar advice

I’ve liked this podcast in the past and it’s still ok sometimes. Lots of wedding questions. Brett said Banff is 30 minutes away from Vancouver so I wouldn’t suggest taking advice from him…

  • Brett + Randy

Love the pod, been here since day 1. Too political even if no politics are brought up. Sally can’t go without either talking politics, or saying “I won’t talk politics” then go on to give an extremely one sided skewed take…. More fun with Brett and Randy, things stay light until they have to get into things and they’re just so much more easy going

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is My Longtime Best Friend In Love With Me?
Q: What should the caller do about shared expenses and the possibility of breaking up with a girlfriend who owns the condo you shared and to whom you contributed $4,000 toward her credit card debt?
The advice centers on practical realities: if you break up, you're likely moving out, and shared expenses aren't typically recoverable unless there's joint ownership. The conversation stresses not trying to recoup such debts from a breakup, instead focusing on boundaries and practical relocation rather than ledger-splitting. If the condo is not jointly owned, you should prepare to move out and avoid attempting to extract that money from the breakup.
Is My Longtime Best Friend In Love With Me?
Q: Hey Brett and Sally, this is a bit long, but context matter. I can't talk today. I have a long time male friend named Jake who has a pattern of on and off relationships. From the outside people might label him a player, but underneath he's a golden retriever. We've been friends for over 10 years and recently grew closer. He has an on-off girlfriend who doesn't know about our closeness and she isn't comfortable with it. Am I crazy to think there could be something more between us, and what should I do?
The hosts acknowledge the history and offer a framework: Jake could be a mess or actually in love with her; regardless, the girlfriend's feelings are valid and the situation risks harming the relationship. They suggest different paths: back off and give space, address boundaries with honesty, or risk the arrangement imploding the friendship or marriage. The recommended approach is to assess what you want from the friendship, set clear boundaries, and consider taking space to allow the couple to sort out their own dynamics.
How Do You Repair A Friendship?
Q: A girl I asked out in my class said she sees me as a friend, not a romantic partner, and I still have feelings. Any tips to help me get over this and move on?
The hosts advise reframing the mindset, avoiding self-blame, focusing on self-improvement, and recognizing that rejection is not a reflection of worth. They encourage continuing to date others and building resilience by improving oneself.
How Do You Repair A Friendship?
Q: Hey Brett and Sally, I'm getting married in May. All of the planning is going well, but I need advice on how to handle one of my fiance's family members. His cousin's husband has been to two weddings in the last few years wearing flip-flops and casual gear to formal events. What should we do since they're invited to our wedding?
They discuss assessing the situation, communicating a clear expectation of attire, and possibly coordinating with a relative to deliver the message; they emphasize not shaming the person, offering a practical, respectful nudge, and accepting that not everyone will conform perfectly.
How Do You Repair A Friendship?
Q: Okay. I'll read the first. Okay. I've been dating my girlfriend for a few years and was planning to propose soon. We've even designed the ring and I've booked a venue and photographer. But lately I feel like the way she treats me has changed. I often feel more like a servant than a partner, and I'm getting yelled at frequently to the point where it feels borderline emotionally abusive. Now I'm seriously considering not proposing and even moving out. How do I tell if this is just pre-engagement nerves or real red flag about the relationship?
The hosts acknowledge multiple red flags and emphasize communication before drastic steps; they suggest treating it as a real conversation about how treatment has changed, exploring whether the issue is about impatience or expectations tied to the engagement, and considering couples therapy or pre-marital counseling as a constructive step.
