  • Fantastic

What a brilliant podcast. All the guests will have at least one game changing tip or piece of advice that will have you rethink your bass angling. It’s helped me on my commute and is well produced. The host asks the questions you want to know and there’s also something you are not expecting. Makes the listener realise how much there is to learn and what a marvellous community of saltwater lure anglers there are out there. Top class - hope some of the guests come back and report back on their sea... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 48 - Chris Roldan - Tarpon King from Miama
Q: How do you handle the risk of sharks and other wildlife while tarpon fishing?
Sharks are a constant risk; many big catches are lost to sharks, so anglers often attempt to land tarpon on the beach where practical and safer, while accepting that wildlife encounters are part of the sport and require quick decisions and resilience.
Episode 48 - Chris Roldan - Tarpon King from Miama
Q: What gear and setup do you rely on for tarpon from land?
A heavy but manageable surfcasting setup with strong braid, a long rod (around 10-11 feet), and a high-test leader (125-150 pounds) is common, paired with lures like darters, bottle plugs, and jigs; the exact rig depends on conditions and the bite window, not just the lure color.
Episode 48 - Chris Roldan - Tarpon King from Miama
Q: What makes tarpon fishing different from other big game fish you target?
Tarpon have very strong, bone-heavy mouths and require precise hook placement; success hinges on understanding mouth anatomy, technique, and reading current and pressure rather than just chasing power. The environment—water current, temperature, and timing—often dictates the bite more than lure color.
Episode 52 - Jonathan Williams - Pembrokeshire Bass Lure Tournament
Q: What are the dates and structure of the tournament this year?
The tournament runs from Friday morning to Sunday midday, a 48-hour window starting with signing in at 10:00 on Friday and the last fish submission by around 14:00 on Sunday, with Friday signing and Saturday fishing activity continuing through the weekend.
Episode 52 - Jonathan Williams - Pembrokeshire Bass Lure Tournament
Q: How do people enter the tournament and what does the entry include?
Entries can be made up until the start of the event, with on-site registration possible; entry includes a tournament T-shirt and hot food on the Sunday. The cutoff for T-shirt orders is May 12, but people can still enter on the day via PayPal on the Facebook page.
