Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

From Music to Brands: Licensing Compliance Expert Marty Malysz on Scaling Global Licensing
Q: What industries are licensors and licensees coming from today?
Today's licensors and licensees come from gaming, sports, fashion, food, automotive, and a growing array of experiential and location-based entertainment brands. The landscape is broadening beyond traditional media into consumer goods and live experiences, with orchestration needed across many partners and channels to keep everything compliant and aligned.
From Music to Brands: Licensing Compliance Expert Marty Malysz on Scaling Global Licensing
Q: How did you end up in the licensing industry?
I slipped into it after a career in apparel manufacturing and software, then found the licensing space to be a much bigger, more dynamic arena that offered greater potential for scale and impact. The transition was gradual but purposeful as I leveraged my knowledge of manufacturing, software, and music licensing to build a broader consumer product licensing practice.
From Pokémon to Manga's Future: Jazwares President Jeremy Padawer on Collecting and the Toy Industry
Q: How did you get into licensing?
Padawer explains his early work in domain names and websites, how that experience led Mattel to take notice, and how that curiosity about licensing evolved into a long career starting around 2000.
From Retail Floors to Iconic Brands: Miraculous Global Head of Consumer Products Rosalind Nowicki on Building Heritage and New IP
Q: What is your approach to refreshing heritage brands versus launching new properties?
For heritage brands you leverage history but make it relevant today, using collaborations and social media to stay current, while for new brands you focus on unique differences and retailer expectations, often starting with a strong, multi-channel plan and building credibility through strategic partnerships.
From Retail Floors to Iconic Brands: Miraculous Global Head of Consumer Products Rosalind Nowicki on Building Heritage and New IP
Q: How did you get into this industry?
I started as a retailer and moved into product development for Disney, then naturally transitioned into licensing when someone offered me a role on a new Motion Picture and Television Licensing team; I learned quickly that product sense could be taught, but a great sense for licensing came from hands-on experience.
