Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

157 - The good and bad examples of law firm leadership
Q: How does diversity influence profitability in a law firm, according to your experience?
Natalie argues that a diverse workforce brings different perspectives and problem-solving approaches, which leads to better decision-making, more innovation, and ultimately higher profits.
157 - The good and bad examples of law firm leadership
Q: What inspired you to focus on leadership and management in a field traditionally known for its technical expertise?
Natalie explains that observing and experiencing workplace cultures, including the negative effects of Queen Bee syndrome and poor management, motivated her to write a book and share practical leadership strategies that emphasize inclusivity and emotional intelligence.
150 - Law firm growth through acquisition
Q: So what challenges is it specifically that that tech company you see will alleviate for you in running the firms that you are?
The biggest pain is onboarding and getting documents out quickly; Orange7 speeds up client care letters, onboarding (KYC/KYB), and invoicing, which protects revenue and reduces risk of clients going elsewhere, allowing lawyers to focus on high‑value work.
171 - The Law Firm Growth Strategy Most Owners Overlook: Culture and Employee Engagement
Q: What are the core changes you made to move from a growth-limited, high-workload firm to a scalable model focused on people?
We reoriented from being client-centric to staff-centric, introduced intent-based leadership, gave nine teams real autonomy with clear KPIs, launched regular career progression discussions, and implemented management training so everyone speaks the same language and understands how their work contributes to the firm's growth.
160 - How sustainability drives commercial success for law firms.
Q: So what advice would you give to law firm owners or partners listening to this and thinking, this is quite interesting. I should look at this.
Start by adopting a formal framework like becoming a B Corp to assess environmental, governance, and social practices, and use that framework as a starting point to improve sustainability across the firm, teams, and client relationships.
