I’m so happy to have found this! I’ve decided to go through the Fleming books again and wondered if there was a podcast out there about them - and sure enough! Keep up the great work. This is awesome stuff, great analysis.
As a long time Bond film fan who has just decided to actually read the books this a great companion podcast to listen to after finishing each one. The host John is great. The only issue is since each week can be a different guest the enjoyment factor can change. For example the guest for Dr No who literally wrote a book about the movie was supremely irritating. Every sentence he said contained the filler words “Er Em” and it drove me crazy so I had to turn it off and I really wanted to hear an ... more
I don’t mind listening to amateurs, but when they try to pass their lack of expertise off as literary criticism, it does get a little tiresome. Apart from their commentary being riddled with errors, they keep harping on about the same things without really taking into account the context of the novels. The result is boring, petty, lacking insight and as full of braying laughter at really bad jokes as any Bond villain.
Bond film breakdowns are ten a penny but this is the only podcast dedicated to the Fleming novels.
Having a different guest on each episode keeps it fresh and means there’s a different perspective with each episode.
It’s also refreshing to listen to people who don’t have exhaustive encyclopaedic knowledge on 007 or Ian Fleming but more of pure enjoyment.
Nice work John!
A very enjoyable podcast indeed. Fascinating takes from all the guests on the multiple layers of Fleming and Bond’s world on the page. John’s an excellent host, I look forward to hearing more.
