  • Great Content. A lot of fun.

I'm not going to tell you that I love every podcast offered by The Incomparable, but there are so darned many of them I enjoy a bunch on a regular basis. Biff! is superhero fun, Total Party Kill is a D&D blast, and Random Trek gives me comfort in these Trek-less times. The mothership show is usually interesting and another favorite is Rocket Surgery, which has hilariously introduced me to "Cool Cat Saves the Kids" and other bargain basement gems (John Carradine Lives! (he doesn’t)). Check out th... more

  • So many great shows, such good sound production

This feed is full of so many good shows! There is sure to be something for everyone who likes to listen to geeky smart people talking and laughing about life, tech, movies, TV shows, books, Dr Who, etc. It’s not rude or crass or gross. Fast-paced and brilliant.

PS Actually a few of the speakers are recorded a rather low and I have to sit there changing the volume up for them and down for everyone else. So people are just soft-spoken and thoughtful and I want to hear them too!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lions, Towers & Shields 138: The Hot Ronald Colman
Q: What makes Beau Geste stand out among silent epics of its era?
Its on-location desert shooting, naturalistic acting, and the way the camera work and lighting compensate for the lack of sound, combined with a strong central motif of brotherly loyalty that carries the narrative despite a complex jewel plot.
The Incomparable Mothership 810: Cheated Out of Glitter Vomit
Q: Which performances lift the show beyond its premise?
The discussion highlights Holly Hunter, Tatiana Maslany, Paul Giamatti, and Jet Reno as standout performers, whose charisma and delivery help carry the heavier emotional and philosophical moments.
The Incomparable Mothership 810: Cheated Out of Glitter Vomit
Q: What makes Starfleet Academy feel like a true Star Trek show while still being accessible to newcomers?
The panel emphasizes that it stays true to Star Trek fundamentals—cannon, space exploration, exploration of ethics—while grounding it in a boarding-school setting with an ensemble of young cadets, which makes the world both familiar and welcoming to new viewers.
We Contain Multitudes 9: Deanna Raybourn - The Bonne Vivante
Q: What are the biggest misconceptions about tarot?
The major misconception is that tarot is scary or satanic; she notes that major arcana cards like death and the devil symbolize transformation or constraints rather than literal doom, encouraging a more nuanced reading.
We Contain Multitudes 9: Deanna Raybourn - The Bonne Vivante
Q: How do you use tarot in your writing process for characters?
She describes character spreads, using a card to represent a character, and matching cards to traits or arcs, and even assigning zodiac signs to predict reactions, turning tarot into a playable method for plotting and developing dynamic relationships.
