Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

At 16, Bankrol Hayden almost died, so he wrote a hit song about it
Q: How has your Portuguese heritage influenced your career and future goals?
I'm leaning into my roots, planning to collaborate with Portuguese artists, perform more in Portugal, and connect with IPMA and Dama to bring our music to a broader audience.
At 16, Bankrol Hayden almost died, so he wrote a hit song about it
Q: What was the challenge of balancing artistic authenticity with industry pressure?
While I've worked with writers, I always aim to stay true to myself; I'll collaborate if it helps, but the core of my music comes from my own experiences and voice.
At 16, Bankrol Hayden almost died, so he wrote a hit song about it
Q: How did the accident change your view of music and your ambitions?
It showed that music could be an outlet and a path forward, turning a traumatic moment into something that motivates and sustains me, giving me hope that this is something I can actually do.
Richie Campbell: Portugal gave him the foundation, Jamaica gave him his purpose
Q: Why start Bridgetown, and how has self-releasing changed your route in the industry?
He recounts feeling alone in the industry and wanting companionship and a collective with like-minded artists; Bridgetown emerged as a response to lack of alignment with traditional labels, a move that later proved strategically empowering as they built a strong live presence and eventually influenced power dynamics with labels.
Richie Campbell: Portugal gave him the foundation, Jamaica gave him his purpose
Q: What pulled you into reggae, dancehall, and R&B, and what kept you there?
Richie explains that reggae formed his foundation because of Jamaica's music identity and social messaging; Portugal's early exposure to reggae came from family and friends, and he chose to let the music define his path rather than fit a single box, which evolved into exploring broader fusion.
