  • Love the DPF!

Bev and Claudia put on such such a great podcast. It’s a shame we live in a world where opioids have been so stigmatized. I really wish there were more people like Bev and Claudia advocating and shedding light into the world of pain patients and the damage the DEA has caused to Pain management. My only complaint is I want more uploads! haha. I listen to you guys at work religiously. Thank you for all you do.

Pain Patients Were Right: The “It’s All in Your Head” Narrative Is Falling Apart
Q: What should patients ask when doctors diagnose them with 'psychological pain' or similar terms?
Ask for the diagnostic criteria for psychological pain, how they rule in or out serious illnesses, and how they differentiate nociception from pain; the dialogue should reveal that there is no clear, falsifiable diagnostic criteria for psychological pain, highlighting the need for more robust definitions and evidence.
Pain Patients Were Right: The “It’s All in Your Head” Narrative Is Falling Apart
Q: Why do some patients have chronic pain with no clear tissue damage on imaging?
Because pain can be produced by activation of the nociceptive apparatus without visible tissue damage; the immune system and glial cells can trigger and sustain nociceptive signaling along the entire pathway, including the brain, even when imaging shows no structural damage.
Pain Patients Were Right: The “It’s All in Your Head” Narrative Is Falling Apart
Q: What is nociception, in layman's terms?
Nociception is the body's biological process of detecting threats by translating damaging or potentially harmful stimuli into nerve signals; it is a somatic, physiological process, while pain is the conscious experience that arises from the activation of the whole nociceptive apparatus, which includes peripheral nerves, spinal pathways, and brain processing.
